Flora brings Mexican flair to the Fan District

Flora brings Mexican flair to the Fan District

If you think Mexican food is all refried beans and Doritos Locos Tacos, it’s time to visit Flora.

The Oaxacan-inspired eatery opens Friday at the former Balliceaux site on Lombardy Street is authentic. How authentic? How about fried grasshoppers authentic?

Fried grasshoppers! Don't knock them, they're delicious! @florarva #RVA #RVAdine

With desserts like chocolate soup with toasted marshmallows¬†and some pretty amazing looking margaritas, there’s definitely more familiar fare on the menu, as well.

When the folks behind Saison (Jay Bayer) and Pasture and Comfort (Michele Jones and Jason Alley) get together, you know it’s going to be tasty. Small plates are in the $10 range while entrees are in the $20 ballpark.
