April - May Exhibits @ Art Works

Art Works’ spring art shows vary from silver dancers, hash tags to the natural world. Mike Keeling, painter and photographer presents La Danseuse En Argent (the silver dancer). Award winning photographers Libby Clark and Michael Mancuso present solo shows of places and nature and Jeanne Minnix, a computer graphic artist breaks away from technology with her exhibit of abstract expressionism paintings. Local artists show off a variety of artwork in the April 2017 All Media Show, juried by B. J. Kocen of Glave Kocen Gallery. The exhibits continue through May 21, 2017. This event is free and open to the public. Exhibits include: La Danseuse En Argent by Mike Keeling Mike Keeling, painter and photographer has spent the past year at Dogtown Dance Theatre working with dancers and models to capture moments of dance. La Danseuse En Argent (the silver dancer) is the result. The exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery. Hashtag Revolution: a mark-making inspired journey of mixed media paintings by Jeanne Minnix Following in the footsteps of abstract expressionism, Minnix explores how colors and marks weave to form a finished painting. Her work is light, lyrical, calligraphic, airy, atmospheric and energetic. As a graphic designer, the art-making process is a great escape from the confines of the computer. Not only is art fun and full of surprises, but it fosters listening to and trusting my intuition. The exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, East Havets Sånger: Songs of the Sea - Lana Stephens' charcoal on paper work revolves around Poe's Annabel Lee, and each piece is accompanied by original music by Simon Petersson. Skylight Gallery. "Havets Sånger" was created collaboratively and consists of ten works of visual art and ten pieces of original music that work together to communicate a narrative. Swedish opera singer and classical composer, Simon Petersson, wrote and performed the musical component of the project. During the Summer of 2013, Simon and Stephens worked together in the South of Sweden to create collaboratively. Much of the work is inspired by the Swedish landscape which is evident in many pieces, though not ostensibly illustrative as allegory and metaphor play a strong role throughout the pieces. Poetry and art accompany the music which work together to convey memory and loss. Classically inspired, this body of work reads as a sort of modern-day operatic tragedy". Scenes from the Last Two Years by Michael Mancuso This exhibit is comprised of highlights of Mancuso’s photographic work since 2015, with emphasis on the scenic and landscapes. This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery West. Nature, Up Close and Personal by Libby Clark. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in rural Fairfax County, Virginia, Clark is no stranger to nature. A professional photographer for many years, working in the studio, with advertising agencies, and multimedia companies, she finds herself now spending more and more time on strictly creative photography. I love taking pictures of the endless magical scenes found in nature, as well as capturing images of my pets and people. This exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery.
