Can’t miss brunches in Shockoe and Church Hill

If any neighborhood could sum up Richmond, it would have to be Church Hill.

If any neighborhood could sum up Richmond, it would have to be Church Hill. While it's one of the city's oldest, it's also has some of the hottest new restaurants.
Instagrammer Luke Witt shot this photo essay of some of the spots that make this neighborhood and the areas around it so charming!

Sub Rosa Bakery

Where do you start describing Sub Rosa Bakery? There’s the Church Hill eatery’s wood-fired pastries, its impeccable pourover coffee and those out of this world breads.

Fruit tarts and chocolate croissants for the sweet tooth and quiches and lamb boreks for the savory fans.

Metzger restaurant in Richmond, VA

Metzger Bar & Butchery

A bar and butchery may not seem like a Sunday brunch spot, but Metzger’s German-inspired menu will quickly change your mind.

Order the pastrami and eggs, duck confit hash, or a schnitzel sammy — you can’t go wrong!

Morgan Botwinick was at the top of the Pastry Arts Program at the French Culinary Institute in NYC. She brought her skills to Whisk, just down the hill in Shockoe.

They offer scratch-baked pastries, breads, local coffee, and gourmet sandwiches and amazing cakes!!!

Nota Bene

Nota Bene started as a mobile wood-fired oven named Pizza Tonight, but now is a full Italian restaurant in Shockoe boasting a brunch menu with Fig and Pig pizza, baked eggs and ricotta pancakes.

The cocktails can’t be beat either!

Station 2

Located inside a historic Shockoe firehouse, Station 2 serves up a delicious country fried pork & waffle and an equally scrumptious sweet potato veggie scramble.

Of course, you can’t pass on their signature burgers and adult milkshakes.

And of course, there's plenty beyond dining in and around Church Hill, like St. John's Church where Patrick Henry gave the famous "Give me liberty or give me death speech."
